How many times have you been challenged to “Think Outside the Box!” when faced with an important problem? Delkor's engineers took this phrase to heart in their development of the Spot-Pak® Packaging System. This innovative solution for secondary packaging applications not only eliminates the corrugated box, but the corrugated tray as well.
The Spot-Pak® packaging system is a fully automated end of line packaging solution that:
- Loads primary product containers onto flat corrugate pads
- Controls stability of product placement and movement on pad surface via a temporary bond of product to flat pad
- Assembles a wide variety of pack patterns into a shrink wrapped shipping package
The patented Spot-Pak® technology yields a high integrity shipping package that:
- Reduces packaging material costs 40% to 60% over traditional corrugated shippers
- Increases pallet density from 5% to 20%, depending upon product size and pattern
- Provides durable shippers to withstand the rigors of product distribution
- Offers a proven track record with nearly two hundred Spot-Pak systems in operation throughout North America
Operation
The Spot-Pack® loader picks pads from a magazine, applies temporary-bond adhesive onto the surface of the pads, picks an array of primary product containers, and places the containers onto the pad. The machine runs at an indexing speed of 20-24 cycles per minute.

The Spot-Pak® package was originally developed by Delkor to optimize secondary packaging for tapered containers typically used in the dairy industry for yogurt, cottage cheese, and sour cream. Today, more than 50% of the entire North American production of cultured dairy products goes to market in a Spot-Pak® package.

Experience has also shown that the Spot-Pak® system can be adapted for a wide variety of rigid containers – metal cans, blow-molded bottles, tapered cups, glass or plastic jars, paperboard cartons and canisters – making it suitable across a broad range of industries.
